Brazilian Music in Bristol

In July every year St Paul's Carnival takes place, finishing in Portland Square (near Cabot Circus). It is a celebration of music, dance and singing for lots of different cultures. You can find music from all over Africa and South America. Including samba and Axe from Brazil!

Carnival in Rio

Carnival takes place in Rio every February, it is the biggest in the world. Rio has lots of Samba schools who practice for the carnival for months beforehand. Each school wants to be the winners of Carnival, as they can win lots of money. On the Saturday of Carnival week they dance up a big parade route called the Sambodromo.





Last year the winning Samba school was G.R.E.S. Academicos do Salgueiro. Click here to see photos of them making thier costumes:

Samba

This video was taken on a Sunday afternoon in Salvador. The performance continued for several hours, by the end of the performance there were lots and lots of people watching, singing and dancing.
